About SBA 7(a) and 504 Loans
The SBA 7(a) program is the SBA's primary lending program, providing guarantees of up to 85% on loans up to $5 million. Lenders range from large national banks to community lenders. 7(a) loans can be used for working capital, equipment, real estate, and business acquisitions.
The SBA 504 program finances major fixed assets, real estate and heavy equipment, through Certified Development Companies (CDCs). Typical 504 loans are larger and longer-term than 7(a) loans, often $1M+ for commercial real estate.
This data covers SBA fiscal years 2020–2025 (October through September) and is sourced from the SBA's FOIA dataset, which includes every approved loan with NAICS industry code, loan amount, lender, and jobs supported.
